Last Saturday, I had the chance to go out with my girlfriend to "Mono Bandido." It's my favorite place in Bogotá to have a beer. The downside is that, in my single days, I went there many times, back then I didn't have a girlfriend and there was no problem. You would go and flirt by sending napkins to groups of women you found attractive and start flirting, playing, asking questions, and doing silly things.
The problem is that on Saturday, I went with my partner. Even though the theme is to give you napkins to later tell the waiter to send it to someone, many people go without that intention. People go because they like to have fun. Because it's an ideal place to have a beer. Personally, I like the Belgium; I think it's the strongest beer but it's delicious, and considering I don't like beer, that's saying something.
It's an unpopular truth, but I'm Colombian, I've never consumed cocaine or marijuana, and I don't like alcohol. That doesn't mean I haven't drunk alcohol, of course I have, but it's not a craving. I've never gone to a place thinking, "Oh, it would be great to have a beer." I'd prefer to have a corozo juice if I'm thirsty.
But anyway, the point is that I went to Mono Bandido on Saturday, and while I was with my girlfriend, someone sent me a napkin, which I attach below.
Basically, it’s a woman who wants to meet the guy with glasses (me); I wear glasses, and she asks why I look at her so much? That's what the napkin says. The truth is, I don't know which woman it was because I look at any woman who passes by normally. It's not that I only looked at one.
The point is that this demonstrates the nature of Colombian women. How can a woman send me a napkin knowing I'm with my girlfriend? My girlfriend and I kissed and hugged in that place. I mean, Colombian women like conflict. Besides, the question "Why do you look at me so much?" is a poisonous question meant to make me fight with my girlfriend, which never happened, haha, but it leads to misunderstandings.
I also have to say, I have Colombian features. If I were a gringo, I would say that women are more flirtatious and forward because they assume a blonde with blue eyes has money and dollars, so if that happens to you when you're with your girlfriend, I would understand. But these things had never happened to me in my life.
When I went alone with my male friends, they would send me napkins, but it was normal, obviously, as a game and flirtation between friends and groups of women in the place.
The place is for that. But it had never happened to me with a partner. It reminds me of a story from an Argentine I met in Mexico who said Colombia is a very beautiful country, but you have to visit it while single because being married is asking for trouble. It's true.
